This is what's been in Lin and Ralph's living room all winter: the boat they're building. It's a wooden canoe, which will be covered with fiberglass. It's really beautiful. The third strip from the top (which is the bottom in the picture because of course the boat is upside down) is maple, which identifies it as having been made by them. Ralph and Lin picked out the tree, a friend cut down the tree and cut it into logs, Ralph cut the strips with the saw in their barn and here's the result. They're just about done putting the strips together now. It's really, really beautiful. Everyone should have a boat like this in their living room as a winter guest.
